George Siletti
Originally from Long Island, George has been homeless off and on since the age of 16. After leaving high school he began traveling the country. “I was a drifter.”
During his time on the street he had numerous jobs, mostly day labor and construction, and spent five years as a mental health peer support specialist in a Baltimore hospital.
Three years after arriving in Washington, DC, George came into contact with Michael Stoops and the National Coalition for the Homeless. Not only did they give him a position as one of the inaugural members of the Speakers’ Bureau, but they also introduced him to an organization called Friendship Place, which helped to place him in supportive housing.
After 11 years George continues to speak with NCH. “I hope to encourage people to help the homeless, and to not be afraid.” He also plans to go back to school for his GED and hopes to go to college to major in mental health studies.
