Kyla Middleton

Kyla Middleton is a wonderful and talented 13 year old girl who loves to sing and dance. Not too long ago Kyla found her voice not only through singing and performing, but also in the art of advocacy. Through Kylas experience of being homeless, and with the encouragement and support of her family, she has mustered the remarkable strength and courage to come forward and share her experiences with others.

Kyla was given her first opportunity to speak at a legislative breakfast in the Spring of 2004, and it was there that she realized that her voice could be heard and that it actually meant something to the people who were brought to tears by her words.

Kyla has been actively participating in Homes For Families events as an advocate since she was 9 years old. She is an excellent public speaker with a strong powerful voice on issues of family homelessness and the Governments lack of adequate support of their most vulnerable citizens. She has attended many Homes For Families meetings and actively participates by voicing her opinions about what she sees and experiences in her own life and what effect those experiences have not only on her but others in the same situation. Kyla is also part of the Give Us Your Poor project and companion CD and has recorded a track with Dan Zanes for the CD.

Kyla is a shining example of a great future leader who can reach out to her peers, as well as others, and get them actively involved by her example and amazing spirit.
